The Auxiliary invites you to our Open Studio day with Polish artist, Leslaw Tetla.
Kaleidoscope, the result of research undertaken over a 3 month period in Stockton and Middlesbrough, examines the different housing structures of these places. The project focuses on the topic of community, the issues that a multicultural society has to deal with, and the home as a potential participative and creative space in the community.
Long, tightly formed terraced houses, with a dominant element- the large bay window. Its character, similar to that of a shop window, reaching out onto the footpath, evokes the exchange of the outdoor and interior space of the house. Most of these windows, completely isolated by curtains…

Leslaw Tetla is a Polish artist who deals with painting, objects, video and site-specific works. He is interested in the influence of architecture, the space created by man, on the behaviour of its users. He works as an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, where he is a head of Interdisciplinary Action Studio and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
